The book by Roald Dahl and subsequent movies can be a great source of inspiration for a fun and quirky themed wedding.

Anyone who has seen the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will remember the scene when the children first enter the wonderful chocolate paradise, complete with cocoa river and sweet delights hanging from every tree. The concept of a Willy Wonka wedding theme is gaining popularity, as it has great scope for imaginative, creative ideas using a bold colour palette and is sure to create an event that guests will remember for a long time to come. Here are some ideas to help recreate that perfect Charlie and the Chocolate Factory experience:

Wonka Inspired Invitations

What better way is there of inviting guests to a Willy Wonka themed wedding than by giving guests their very own Wonka Bar with a "Golden Ticket" tucked inside? The bar design is easy to recreate yourself using a computer and printer, or alternatively, could be ordered from a specialist in custom-made wedding invitations.

An even quirkier way to send the invitation is to slip the "Golden Ticket" inside a real chocolate bar, just underneath the outer wrapper. This is an inventive (and tasty) way to create an authentic Willy Wonka theme, which will make the recipient eager to attend the event in anticipation of the further treats that lie in store.

Colour Scheme For a Chocolate Factory Wedding

The main colours used in the movies were chocolate brown, of course, as well as deep purple, orange and green. Some or all of the accent colours can be combined effectively with the main chocolate brown shade to create bold effects. This type of wedding is certainly no place for muted shades and pastel colours!

Despite the brightness of the colours, shades of orange, green and purple work well together because they are evenly spaced on the colour wheel, creating a triadic colour scheme. This type of scheme works best when one colour is chosen as the main colour and the other two are used as accent colours.

Wonka Themed Wedding Decor

The table and reception room decor provides a huge scope for design possibilities. Brightly coloured balloons could be hung on the walls to look like giant gumballs, and candy canes and other oversized sweets could also be used on the walls.

Real sweets could be used in the table decorations, which could just be something as simple as small apothecary jars filled with jelly beans, or maybe a selection of brightly coloured lollipops in a pretty container could replace a traditional floral table decoration. Tablecloths and napkins could be a deep chocolate shade, and the choice of wedding favours is endless, considering all of the different types of candy that could be chosen.

The wedding cake will surely be the focal point of the room and can be decorated with brightly coloured confectionary. Many cakes use the idea of the chocolate waterfall cascading down the front of the cake. Cupcakes decorated with bright candy could also be used. No Wonka-themed wedding would be complete without a traditional chocolate fountain for the guests to enjoy.

It is easy to see why this fun theme is becoming so popular. Many such weddings also incorporate the theme into the wedding attire, with the groom dressing up in Willy Wonka regalia and top hat. Surely this is the perfect wedding for chocolate lovers who want to create a special and unique event.
