A butterfly theme can either be subtle or bold, depending on the overall effect desired and the type of wedding taking place. The beauty of using butterflies as a wedding motif is that there are so many different shapes and colours of butterfly to choose from. Traditionalists may prefer an all-white theme, with butterfly references dotted almost subliminally on table decorations and outfits, whereas a more modern, contemporary theme may incorporate the brighter species of butterfly, such as the Peacock or Monarch, depending on the underlying colour scheme.

Another way of utilising a paper punch is to cut butterfly shapes from shiny holographic card to create tiny butterfly confetti shapes, which can be strewn across tables at the reception or tucked inside the invitation to provide a sweet surprise as the card is opened.
It is possible to buy butterfly-shaped place cards which tuck neatly over the rim of a glass to create the effect that the butterfly has come to rest on the edge of the glass. The cards are usually made from metallic, shiny card, and the name of the guest can be written on the wing. This is a really beautiful and clever way of seating guests at a wedding reception.

Small, fabric butterflies can be incorporated easily into the bridesmaids' outfits, in areas such as on the sleeves, or embroidered onto the dress as part of the design. They can also be sewn onto a hairband quite easily. It is also very easy to find butterfly-shaped hairclips and slides, which can be added to the back of the hair when the hair is worn up. Some tiaras also incorporate diamante butterflies.
The bride can also have butterfly motifs sewn onto her dress, or worn in the hair. Delicate butterfly-themed jewelry pieces, such as earrings, bracelets and necklaces are another easy way to include the butterfly motif in the wedding attire.
Other Ways to Include the Butterfly Theme in Weddings
The cake is a great way of using the butterfly motif. Small butterflies could be iced onto the cake, or ornamental butterflies could be placed amongst the flowers on the cake.
Fabric butterflies attached to wire can be used to decorate tables, walls, ceilings and pillars at the reception venue and are really effective when used against a backdrop of flowers.
Butterfly-shaped sweets can be given out as wedding favours.
